With The Installation Of A New, Upgraded, Total Facility Emergency Back Up Power System Equipped With A Notification System The Staff And Residents At The Woodcliff Lake Health And Rehabilitation Center Can Rest Easy Knowing They Won’t be Left Powerless Thanks to Generator Dan O’Brien
May 31, 2013-Woodcliff Lake, N.J.-Post Hurricane Sandy emergency improvements at The Woodcliff Lake Health & Rehabilitation Center, located on Chestnut Ridge Road in Woodcliff Lake, NJ include a new Cummins Onan Generator, which was installed by the emergency power specialists, Academy Electric Contractors, Inc. of Emerson, New Jersey. “We have engineered the new system to power the entire facility. There will be business as normal with or without utility power”, stated Generator Dan O’Brien, president of Academy Electric.
The existing Caterpillar diesel generator, which was original to the building and only powered part of the building, had failed during the Sandy storm and parts were no longer available.
“When Sandy came and the power failed the nursing home was limping along on limited power. The staff was kept very busy hooking up extension cords and relocating some residents because of the limited power. Then the generator failed. They had to call in ambulances and relocate the 100 plus residents,” stated Mr. O’Brien,
The nursing facility decided to not only replace the failing generator but to upgrade to an entire facility back-up power generator. The new emergency power system consists of a new 1200 Amp Onan automatic transfer switch and a 350 KW Cummins Onan diesel generator. The transfer switch and the generator are connected to a notification system, that in the event of a utility failure, any
intermittent trouble, or anytime the generator starts and runs will activate and notify all designated parties by text message and email on cell phones, tablets and computers. “It is state of the art communications, which enables us to know in real-time what’s going on at this facility, remotely, through the technology Cummins Onan has in their product, explained Mr. O’Brien aka “Generator Dan”.
Mr. O’Brien went on to explain that the new diesel generators have a much longer life than the older ones. Cummins Onan and Academy Electrical Contractors, Inc. stock parts for 20-year-old equipment.
Academy’s sister company Electrical Power Systems offers comprehensive preventive maintenance agreements. Consisting of quarter site visits and one full service annually.
